When it comes to stainless steel services and products, it’s important to know what you’re working with. Stainless steel is one of the most commonly used metals in manufacturing today, but how much do you actually know about it? Let’s review a few key basics to understand when it comes to stainless steel.

First and foremost, stainless steel is what’s called an alloy. An alloy is created using two or more metallic elements and combining them to form something with greater strength or resistance to corrosion.

Stainless steel possesses both of those qualities because it’s an alloy that has a minimum of 10.5% chromium content by mass. This ensures that it’s super strong and resistant to corrosion.

As a result of stainless steel’s incredible qualities, it’s a popular choice for food handling and food manufacturing. Since the metal is super strong, it doesn’t scratch or dent easily, which makes for much more efficient and effective sanitizing. Resistance to corrosion also means that it can get wet without issue.
